…for it had not yet fallen upon any of them;
they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. Then they laid hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit.
-Acts 8:17
Confirmation
"The reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly
bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by
word and deed." (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1285)
Confirmation completes the grace of Baptism by a special outpouring of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, which seal or “confirm”
the baptized in union with Christ and equip them for active participation in the worship and apostolic
life of the Church.
The Sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated in the fall of a student’s ninth grade year.
The person preparing for Confirmation must be a baptized Catholic or have been received
into full communion of the Catholic Church, and have received First Eucharist.
A student must have completed a religious education class. The family must be attending Sunday Mass
regularly. A letter to the pastor is required indicating the family’s readiness for the student
to receive this Sacrament. Confirmation candidates are required to attend the Rite of Enrollment,
confirmation preparation sessions, and a retreat, as well as complete 15 hours of community
service and 5 hours of perpetual adoration. The Confirmation date is set by the Bishop and the Pastor.
