"On the night he was handed over, took bread, and,
after he had given thanks, broke it and said, "This is my body that is for you. Do this in remembrance of me."
-1 Cor 11:24
Eucharist
"The Eucharist is the heart and the summit of the Church's life, for in it Christ associates his
Church and all her members with his sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving offered once for all on the cross
to his Father; by this sacrifice he pours out the graces of salvation on his Body which is the Church"
(Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1407) and Jn 6:51, 54, 56).
The liturgical action called the Eucharist is also traditionally known as the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. The Holy Eucharist completes Christian initiation.
The Sunday celebration of the Eucharist is at the heart of the Church’s life.
First Eucharist
The Sacrament of Eucharist is usually received in second grade. The child must be baptized, have received the sacrament of reconciliation, have completed first grade religious education, and be
attending second grade religious education classes. The family must be attending Sunday mass regularly. A letter to the pastor is required indicating the family’s readiness for the child to receive this Sacrament.
Children receive First Communion in May.
